Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Rosemary Sutcliffs adventure novel and I felt this movie was true to the book, with a few changes that actually made the story better.

First off, Sutcliff wrote a book for teen readers and the movie was done in such a way that I felt comfortable bringing my teenage son to see it. There was violence, owing to the times, but not graphic like most movies these days. In fact, people were killed or executed with most of the gory parts off screen or to the side so you didnt see the actual act. There was no sex or nudity, which for me is a nice change when I want to see a feature film for the story and not have these scenes thrown in for that type of audience.

The story is an intelligent historical adventure bringing the viewer into an unknown world in Northern Scotland. It depicts accurately the relation between the conquering Romans and their subjugated Brittons and Celts. We see Roman period soldiers accurately represented and native Picts as they may have been, without many historical records to verify their way of life.

The movie is also about a friendship that builds between two men from opposite sides of the conflict and the bonds that build despite their differences in culture. There are lots of battles, beautiful scenery, and excitement.

The movie follows Sutcliffs hunt for the 9th Legion Eagle, lost beyond Hadrians Wall in the the mysterious land of the Picts, ruthless tribes of barbarians in present day Scotland. Despite some recent evidence that the 9th Legion was never destroyed in Scotland, the story is captivating and despite being fiction has a real authentic feel.

The Eagle – Famed film director Anselmo is shaping up his latest movie – part drama, part comment on Catholicism, but most importantly primarily biography. In spite of his holding that this picture should be an comfortable one to create, he is having problems with his aesthetic vision, mainly as he does not wish to tell a mis-truth on film. From the tenseness, he has to help him with many of his problems, both professional and individual.

As he operates through these troubles, he reminisces about his childhood and throughout The Eagle fantasizes about how he either pictures affairs playing out or how he trusts they will work out. Enveloping him at the health spa and/or on the film set are many of the real life people who will be represented on screen including: his wife Sally who he truly loves but who he does not really understand particularly as it connects to their wedlock; his mistress Carla, the antithesis of his wife; and an actress named Claudia whom he envisions as providing his crowning redemption.

So he moves back into his daydreams to shield himself from the forces, and there, he finds guidance to make his revolutionary movie, and face up to the populace. The Eagle is a very strong pic.

Setsuko and Sesinta are brother and sister dwelling in wartime Japan in The Eagle. After their mother is shot down in an air raid they obtain a short-lived home with relations. Having quarrelled with their auntie they go out the city and make their place in an unoccupied shelter. While their father’s circumstances as a soldier is unknown the two must depend on each other to someway keep a roof over their heads and food in their tummies. When everything is in skimpy supply, they step by step yield to hungriness and their only entertainment is laughing with each other.

In The Eagle, John Williams, accounting clerk and only a face in a crowd together of 10,000 employees, has a unimportant problem. He can’t use his own apartment. Since he in one case lent out his key to one of his supervisors and his fancy woman, this tradition has scattered ever since. At Once, assorted masters from unusual sections take in his apartment for their meetings. Being foretold not to be unheeded when it comes to breaks in force, John immerses his wrath – until he observes that the mistress of Mr. Terry, the company’s foreman, and his young mistress, Linda, are the selfsame someone. And they are habituating his house.

Even though John been disregarded personnel-wise, the unfulfilled self-annihilation of the girl in his very own house makes him cogitate. The Eagle will also make you cogitate.

The Eagle – Will lead you with a grin and perchance a tear. As a slender young lady leaves the hospital and passes along a church wedding party, Glory situates her new babe with a beseeching note in a limousine and runs off to do away with herself. The limousine is stole by crooks who plunk the child by a garbage dumpster.

Bobby notices the infant and forms a home for the babe. Four years after Glory has grown into a music star and performs charitable work for poor youngsters in hope of seeing her boy. A Dr. visited by Bobby identifies the letter with the verity about the Child and describes it to the agencies who come to bring him away from Bobby. Before the boy arrives at the Orphanage steals him back and conveys him to a tawdry motel.

The manager learns of a reward for the kid and returns him to Glory. Bobby is later waked up by a kind officer who reunifies him with the kid at Glory’s residence. The Eagle is sometimes sentimental but you will like each minute.

In seventh century Japan, a worker and his wife are assailed by the disreputable brigand Mamar, and the farmer ends up deceased. He enjoins yet other altogether contrasting report. Lastly, a who recovered the dead body lets out that he ascertained the entire matter, and his version is once more altogether assorted from the others.

The Eagle is an conundrum of a picture show.

    See it for yourself.

  12. cecelia says:

In The Eagle the hereafter Cityvista is a remarkable village, high up the soil its pillars brook. The hoi polloi flourish, the economy is booming, the buttressed lanes are brisk. But the village too has a extraordinary mystery, so well concealed that not even Philip, son of founder Harry knows it. He is spending his free time in the Pleasant Gardens, when on the spur of the moment a young lady shows up, with what appears to be a class of small fry. They’re from the village, in the depth, he determines. “These are your uncles”, she says to the tykes, before she is impelled to depart. The military man is so fascinated he takes after them into the depth and never does care what he learns. The workers are put-upon, they must do labour like golems.

Fred essays to convince his brother to switch, while the young lady essays to keep workers team spirit higher by calling a man will fend up that will intercede. A man that will employ both workforces and mind, that will be the core.

The Eagle is a great moving-picture show.

The Eagle – Johnny Smith, an ex-convict, organises a $3 million raceway hold-up. His accomplices are racetrack teller George Dayton, the barman Mike Miller, crooked policeman Randy Havens, and former alcoholic Marvin Benson, who finances the operation. Johnnys fiancee, Linda, fears that he might be returned to stir for the heist but he assures her that the hazards are worth taking.

George needs the spoils to give to his cross and self-seeking wife Sherry, who is carrying on an affair with Val Prettyman, whom is attempting to persuade Sherry to let him murder George so they can run off with his booty. Mike needs the money to take care of his constantly sick spouse. Randy is discovered to require the loot to pay back some local bookies for gambling losses.

Shortly after the beginning of The Eagle, during their encounter, George grabs Sherry spying on them and overcomes her. He sends off the others, including George, home to speak with her. Johnny knows that Sherry is a swindler only out for the loot, and he assures her that he will pass her a ample percentage of their prize whenever it gets carried off. Only Sherry, being who she is, rats to Val who agrees to steal the money afterward so they can possess it altogether for themselves.

Johnny hires Nikki Barber, a hit man and Maurice Quentin, a former ex-con and Greek wrestler, to make deflections at the beginning of the 8th race when the heist will go down.

Here is how The Eagle shows the armed robbery is played out in particular from assorted points of view:

At the beginning of the 8th race, Maurice starts a bash at Mikes tavern. The race track guards conquer him. While they are absorbed, George opens the doorway to the payroll office and Johnny sneaks through. Johnny gets out a quick-firing shotgun that Mike planted previously in his storage locker, puts on a mask and robs the 4 clerks at the payroll office. Johnny shoves $3 million in hard cash into a large travelling bag and hurls it out the window. Randy, ready and waiting below, carries the bag, drives to a hotel, and throws it in a room that Johnny is taking. Johnny then gets out from the racecourse in the confusedness and terror caused when Nikki kills the racehorse, Red Rusty, with a
high powered rifle from a far-flung parking lot. But Nikki is killed by a policeman, who shoots him down as he undertakes to flee.

Subsequently, George, Randy, Marvin and Mike wait at Johnnys house for him to return with the dough when they are gobsmacked by Val and an accomplice of his demanding to find out where the moolah is. A gun fight results and all are killed, except for George who, though mortally injured, hauls himself home and bumps off Sherry who admits that she deceived him, before dropping dead himself.

When Johnny finds that his collaborators are in deep doo-doo, he thrusts the track booty in an old travelling bag and goes to the airport and meets up with Fay so they can skip town. They both purchase tickets to Washington, but the airport officials decline to let Johnny transport the jumbo grip on the jet, and he very reluctantly checks the grip .

On the runway, the traveling bag bearing the dough drops off a baggage tram which swerves to keep from striking a snobby, rich womans pet dog. The luggage busts open, and the money is spread in all directions.

In The Eagles final shot Johnny and Fay seek to escape from the airport, but it is impossible to hail a cab. “What difference does it make?”, Johnny states as the police force close in.

I imagined the flick might acquire a few accolades. I don’t acknowledge if that is real or not. But The Eagle is a strong film to savour.

  16. lucille says:

The Eagle – In a French parochial town, Philip Adams, a vitriolic school-master of an academy belonging to his wife Willa, a delicate young woman with a feeble heart, upholds an affair with Liz McDowell, a keen, self-assertive teacher who was his paramour from the day she arrived. He has, nonetheless, treated her as badly as his spouse, and the women have been goaded into an bond against him. In Concert they work out a careful design to free themselves of their miserable teaser. Enticing him away from the schoolhouse to a tacky lodgement, they induce him to ingest some doctored scotch – and drown him in a bathtub.

The dead body is later draped in a cotton tablecloth, jammed into a laundry basket, taken back to the school house, and after dark toppled into the muddy water of the school house pool. When, afterwards, the pool is drained, followed in tortured outlook from a windowpane by the women, no corpse is there. Soon other mysterious effects begin to occur, and ensuant reported sightings of the master slowly drive his killers (along with the biggest part of the audience) up the wall with well-nigh unendurable suspense.

The Eagle is very much worth seeing.

The Eagle – In the African jungle, supplies of precarious nitroglycerin are desperately needed at a almost inaccessible oil field, to attempt to quench an oil-well fire that is totally out of control.

A convoy of trucks driven by 4 derelicts carries the extremely risky nitroglycerin. A jittery rivallry evolves between the two sets of drivers, where on the tough and untrodden routes the smallest jolt can result in death in The Eagle.

Their overnight, racking drive over tough roads with their cargo ready to detonate at every jar and shock makes The Eagle very edgy and electrifying. The drivers are taking chances with their very lives against the opportunity to run from their steaming, sordid and filthy environment.

  20. marva says:

In The Eagle Rodney is a hit man for the mob (or “cleaner” as he would prefer to be acknowledged) living a single life in Chicago. The biggest part of his work comes from a drug lord named Jerry, who controls the
Lake Adams Furniture retail store. Rodney spends his extra time engaging in exercising, nurturing an African Violet plant that early on in The Eagle he identifies as his best friend and watching old Bing Crosby flicks.

Gloria, a 11-year old girl, is living an undesirable life within her family unit. Her older brother stores drugs for a two-faced police man named Max. Only her little brother keeps Gloria from cracking apart. These scenes are where The Eagle is genuinely affective.

One day, Max and his cohorts take cruel revenge on her family member for stretching the drugs a bit, thus stamping out the whole family. Only Gloria, who was out grocery shopping, comes through by finding shelter in Rodneys apartment in the instant of highest need.

Shortly, Gloria learns about the odd neighbours odd profession – killing – and urgently asks his assistance in revenging her little brothers death. Rodney, who is completely unexperienced in paternal jobs, and in friendships, does his utmost to keep Gloria out of trouble – unsuccessfully.

Now, in The Eagle, the conflict between a mob hit man, who slowly learns about his abilities to feel and to love and a bad cop, who does all things in his power to do away with an eye witness, rises up to immensurable dimensions – all for the sake of a youthful girl, who has nearly nothing to lose.

The ending of The Eagle is affective Dont miss this picture.

Mom and Dad never waver to sit down and eat the food, but the daughter feels danger and refuses.

As night returns, she is scared to see the field fill with anonymous apparitions, but when she runs to regain her folks, she ascertains that they have been deformed into cattle. She is observed by a mystic boy named Tukur, who promises to serve the young girl. He gets her a job working in a adjacent edifice, which plays out to be a bathhouse for the many, many of Japan’s idols and spirits. In The Eagle near the Mexican border during the winding down weeks of the Old West, two gunmen three wearing long duster overcoats take over an out of the way depot and settle in to look out for the stage coach. When that at long last comes, a unnamed man gets off and asks for someone called Frank. The men tell the man Frank sent them in his stead. In the following confrontation, all the men go down. Only the man from the stage in The Eagle gets up again.

The The Eagle theme to the starting panorama is a creative instrumentation of nondescript audios in the style of Jon Mercer. The composer uses routine sounds, to show the tediousness of waiting for the train. The scant dialog allows for the soundtrack to use up a great deal more of our attention span than a score commonly does.

The Eagle is a very absorbing pic. Anyone will remember it long after the last credits roll.

His confederates are race way cashier George Dayton, the barman Mike Sawyer, crooked policeman Randy Havens, and former alcoholic Marvin Sweetwater, who funds the procedure. Johnnys fiancee, Linda, worries that he could be returned to stir for this crime but he assures her that the perils are worth taking.

George needs the money to give to his snappy and selfish wife Sherry, who is carrying on an affair with Val Madson, whom is trying to persuade Sherry to let him murder George so they can drive off with his cash. Mike needs the cash to take care of his constantly sick spouse. Randy is discovered to require the booty to compensate some local bookmakers for deep gambling debts.

Shortly after the beginning of The Eagle, during their encounter, George sees Sherry spying on them and overcomes her. He charges the others, accepting George, home to speak with her. Johnny recognizes that Sherry is a scammer only out for cash, and he assures her that he will pay her a lavish portion of their moolah when it gets completed. However, Sherry, being the woman she is, advises Val who concurs to steal the bounty afterwards so they can have it completely for themselves.

Johnny hires Nikki Breshears, a hit man and Maurice Odocoff, a former ex con and Polish grappler, to make diversions at the starting signal of the 8th race when the heist will commence.

Here is how The Eagle presents the hold-up is executed in detail from contrasting points of view:

At the beginning of the 8th race, Maurice starts a brawl at Mikes saloon. The racetrack guards overcome him. While they are absorbed, George opens up the door to the payroll department office and Johnny slides through. Johnny gets out a quick-firing scattergun that Mike planted before in his locker, puts on a mask and robs the five shop clerks at the payroll office. Johnny shoves $3 million in cash into a huge suitcase and hurls it out the window. Randy, ready and waiting below, receives the bag, drives to a hotel, and throws it in a room that Johnny is letting. Johnny then gets away from the track in the disarray and panic caused when Nikki kills the racehorse, Red Rusty, with a
high powered rifle from a far-off parking lot. But Nikki is shot down by a policeman, who shoots him down as he endeavours to get away.

Afterward, George, Randy, Marvin and Mike wait at Johnnys flat for him to show up with the loot when they are stupefied by Val and an accomplice of his demanding to find out where the money is. A shootout results and all are killed, except George who, though gravely injured, hauls himself home and tosses off Sherry who admits that she sold him, before croaking himself.

When Johnny finds that his collaborators are in trouble, he squeezes the racetrack loot in an old traveling bag and proceeds to the airport and gets together with Fay so they can skip town. They both buy tickets to Los Angeles, but the airport personnel refuse to let Johnny pack the massive bag on the plane, and he very reluctantly checks the travelling bag .

On the airport runway, the travelling bag containing the cash free falls off a baggage truck which swerves to keep from running over a snobby, rich womans little dog. The grip breaks open, and the cash is spread out in all directions.

In The Eagles final scene Johnny and Fay endeavour to run away from the airport, but find they cannot hail a cab. “Whats the difference?”, Johnny pronounces as the police close in on them.

The Eagle – Notable theater director Guillermo is working up his most historical motion picture – part science fiction, part comment on Buddhism, but most importantly primarily biography. Despite his declaring that this show should be an admirable one to construct, he is having troubles with his artistic vision, primarily as he does not want to tell a mis-truth on screen. From the tension, he has checked himself into a spa to aid him with some of his troubles, both professional and personal.

As he through these problems, he remembers about his child-hood and throughout The Eagle fantasizes about how he either sees things playing out or how he desires they will turn out. Enveloping him at the health spa and/or on the film set are many of the real world souls who will be portrayed on the movie screen including: his spouse Paula who he truly loves but who he does not fully understand peculiarly as it concerns to their wedlock; his mistress Geraldine, the opposite of his wife; and an actress named Honoria whom he interprets as furnishing his final redemption.

So he withdraws into his dreams to protect himself from the forces, and there, he finds inspiration to make his groundbreaking picture, and face the public. The Eagle is a very important pic.

Gloria, a 11-year old girl, is living an unenviable life within her household. Her father stores drugs for a two-faced cop named Max. Only her little brother keeps Gloria from coming apart. These scenes are where The Eagle is truly warm-toned.

One day, Max and his partners in crime take vicious revenge on her family member for stretching along the drugs a little, therefore putting to death the whole family. Only Gloria, who was out shopping, lives on by finding shelter in Rodneys apartment in the minute of highest need.

Before Long, Gloria picks up about the strange neighbours extraordinary job – killing – and urgently seeks his assistance in seeking revenge for her little brothers death. Rodney, who is completely without experience in paternal undertakings, and in friendly relationships, does his best to keep Gloria out of difficulty – unsuccessfully.

Now, in The Eagle, the struggle between a mob hitman, who slowly learns about his abilities to feel and to love and a dirty policeman, who does anything in his power to remove an eye witness, develops to unmeasurable proportions – all for the benefit of a slender girl, who has almost nothing to lose.

However, Sherry, being who she is, tells Val who concurs to steal the bounty afterwards so they can have it entirely for themselves.

While they are engaged, George opens the doorway to the payroll department office and Johnny slues through. Johnny gets out a quick-firing scatter gun that Mike planted before in his footlocker, places on a masque and robs the 3 clerks at the payroll office. Afterwards, George, Randy, Marvin and Mike await at Johnnys flat for him to return with the lucre when they are surprised by Val and a confederate of his wanting to find out where the bread is. A gun fight ensues and they all are killed, except George who, though mortally hurt, hauls himself home and wipes out Sherry who acknowledges that she cheated on him, before buying the farm himself.

When Johnny finds that his collaborators are in big trouble, he shoves the raceway plunder in an old traveling bag and breaks to the airport and meets up with Fay so they can depart the town. They both purchase tickets to Montana, but the airport functionaries decline to let Johnny take the big suitcase on the airplane, and he very reluctantly checks the travelling bag .

On the runway, the luggage holding the loot falls off a luggage truck which swerves to keep from running over a snobby, rich ladys little dog. The traveling bag splits open, and the moolah is spread-out in all directions.

The Eagle opens as disturbed mother’s boy Walter Anthony meets noted tennis professional Guy Hancock on a train. Guy wants to move into a vocation in political science and has been seeing a senator’s daughter while awaiting a divorce from his wife. Anthony wishes to kill his dad but acknowledges he will be caught because he has a motivation. Anthony concocts a wild outline in which he and Guy switch murders. Guy takes this as a joke, but Anthony is sincere and takes affairs into his own hands.

Anthony, will obliterate Guy’s unloved wife if Guy will kill Anthony’s hated father. Guy doesn’t take Anthony earnestly until his wife, Mary, is discovered murdered in a woods. Guy becomes the chief suspect, which threatens his professional career; his loving affair with another woman; his hopes for a policy-making career; and yet his life. When it becomes manifest to Anthony that Guy isn’t going to murder his male parent, he tells Guy that he means to constitute Guy’s guilt conclusively by planting his monogrammed tie in the place where his wife was bumped off. Guy’s attempts to stop Anthony make The Eagle a real entrancing movie.

  89. april says:

The Eagle – In an Italian unsophisticated town, Nicholas Mandrell, a nasty schoolmaster of a school belonging to his wife Mina, a dainty girlish woman with a weakened heart, conducts an affaire with Rene Jensen, a keen, cocky teacher who was his kept woman from the day she came into town. He has, all the same, treated her as poorly as his spouse, and the two women have been goaded into an alinement against him. In Concert they work out a complicated design to rid themselves of their routine tormenter. Tempting him away from the academy to a mean lodgement, they induce him to swallow some doctored bourbon – and drown him in a tub.

The corpse is later enveloped in a rayon table cloth, crowded into a laundry basket, taken back to the school house, and during the night dumped into the black water of the academy swimming pool. When, shortly after, the swimming pool is drained, viewed in heartbreaking expectation from a window by the women, no corpse is there. Before Long other unexplained events begin to come about, and consequent reported sightings of the school master slowly drive his murderers (along with nearly all the audience) up the wall with well-nigh unbearable suspense.

    The Eagle is very good.

The Eagle – Johnny Johnson, an ex-convict, coordinates a $3 million racetrack robbery. His confederates are racetrack teller George Dayton, the barman Mike Sawyer, crooked policeman Randy Havens, and former alcoholic Marvin Wheeler, who finances the operation. Johnnys fiancee, Linda, is apprehensive that he may be returned to stir for this but he tells her that the risks are worth taking.

George needs the proceeds to give to his disagreeable and egotistic wife Sherry, who is sleeping with with Val Olberman, who is trying to persuade Sherry to let him wipe out George so they can make off with his cash. Mike needs the moolah to nurse his constantly ill wife. Randy is divulged to want the cash to pay some local bookies for dreadful gambling losses.

Shortly after the beginning of The Eagle, during their get together, George sees Sherry snooping on them and overcomes her. He sends the others, accepting George, home to talk with her. Johnny acknowledges that Sherry is a gouger only out for the money, and he tells her that he will pass her a good portion of their moolah whenever it gets carried off. However, Sherry, being who she is, rats to Val who concurs to steal the cash afterward so they can get it completely for themselves.

Johnny hires Nikki Barber, a hitman and Maurice Rich, a former exconvict and Greek grappler, to create diversions at the starting of the 8th race when the robbery will go down.

Here is how The Eagle presents the heist is accomplished in particular from contrasting points of view:

At the starting of the 8th race, Maurice starts a free-for-all at Mikes barroom. The race courwse guards overcome him. While they are tied up, George opens up the doorway to the payroll department office and Johnny steals through. Johnny gets out a quick-firing scattergun that Mike planted before in his locker, puts on a disguise and holds up the five shop clerks at the payroll office. Johnny stuffs $3 million in hard cash into a big pocketbook and throws it out the window. Randy, ready below, receives the bag, drives to a motel, and leaves it in a room that Johnny is taking. Johnny then lams from the race track in the confusion and scare caused when Nikki shoots the race horse, Red Rusty, with a
high powered rifle from a distant parking lot. But Nikki is killed by a police officer, who shoots him down as he seeks to flee.

Afterwards, George, Randy, Marvin and Mike await at Johnnys flat for him to surface with the cabbage when they are stupefied by Val and an accomplice of his wanting to find out where the loot is. A gunfight ensues and they are all killed, except for George who, though mortally wounded, pulls himself home and tosses off Sherry who acknowledges that she deceived him, before dropping dead himself.

When Johnny finds that his mates are in big trouble, he shoves the race track scratch in an old travelling bag and travels to the airport and adjoins with Fay so they can skip town. They both purchase tickets to New York, but the airport officials refuse to let Johnny carry the enormous bag on the plane, and he very reluctantly checks the travelling bag .

On the runway, the luggage bearing the cash falls off a baggage-truck which swerves to keep from hitting a snott, rich womans pet dog. The travelling bag bursts open, and the plunder is spread out in all directions.

In The Eagles final aspect Johnny and Fay endeavour to escape from the airport, but they cannot hail a taxicab. “Whats the difference?”, Johnny pronounces as the cops close in.

The Eagle – Examines the disillusionment of an ageing MD, Professor Neldstrom, as he muses on his life and starts to perceive his mortality.

The Eagle opens when 80-year-old Isaac Neldstrom, is in bed at his home. He dreams of being on a city street with no other persons present. A clock dangling over the street has no hands. He checks his own timepiece – it too has no hands. A shape appears with his back turned. Isaac goes up to the form and touches it. The figure has no face. The form tumbles onto the paving. Blood pours out of the body.

Immediately a hearse pulled by a brace of horses comes around a corner and enters the alley on which the dream-Isac is standing. It comes near Isaac and then passes by him but its rear wheel gets caught on a lamp post. Even though no one is driving the hearse, the team of horses go on forward. The left hindmost wheel collapses off at the lamppost. The horses and hearse chase away but the coffin comes free, and glides out and onto the alley way. A paw appears on the exterior of the casket. Isaac considers the hand. His own hand and the other arm stretched out from the casket adjoin, with the paw coming out of the coffin holding onto Isaac. The figure in the casket is also Isaac. The Eagle shows him as he comes alive.
