Review: Your Highness could have so easily become just another spoof along the lines of Epic Movie or Meet the Spartans but surprisingly just as the action was treated seriously in Pineapple Express, the fantasy elements here are just as important as the comedy. The special effects and production design are very impressive and the film certainly looks epic using the country of Ireland as its backdrop. There are evil witches firing lightning all over the place, there are mechanical beasts right out of the original Clash of the Titans and there is a weird hand/pit/monster thing that is cool as hell. Its also mega gory, limbs are hacked off and there is plenty of blood. Of course there is silly humor, very silly. If you didnt get Greens last comedy you may struggle here although Your Highness is probably the better film.
This could well be the film that breaks Danny McBride into super stardom as he is the main star here. He delivers his lines in a pretty flawless English accent and the character is a classic spoiled loser who must learn to be a man. Just wait until you see the scene where he takes a trophy from a kill, its hilarious and gross. James Franco is being himself but also gets plenty of laughs jabbing away at the image of the handsome prince who writes poetry while also being handy with a sword. Portman is her usual brilliant self and for all her male fans there is a bathing scene that will get your temperature up. The main cast are supported by some more traditional thespian types. Toby Jones plays a creepy town crier type, Charles Dance is the king, Damian Lewis plays a treacherous knight and Justin Theroux nearly steals the whole thing as Leezar. Previously best known for smaller roles in David Lynch films and writing Tropic Thunder, Theroux is a comic revelation here delivering many of the films best lines with prosthetic teeth and a hideous wig. I laughed a lot and loudly and so did the packed audience.
The script is written by McBride with his frequent collaborator Ben Best and clearly they have a lot of affection for the 1980s fantasy movies they (and I) grew up with. Films like Krull, Clash of The Titans, Hawk the Slayer, Willow, Conan and Beastmaster are all wonderfully homaged and never poked fun at. It really could have died on its ass for being so ambitious but in the hands of a craftsman like David Gordon Green it works wonders.

Your Highness – Louis D’Antoinne Millenes is a descendant of a family of English aristocrats, but when his mother got married below her station, the D’Antoinne family renounced her, which Louis finds dishonorable. When his mother’s dying wish, to be entombed in the family burial place, is not granted by the family, Louis is angered and raring for retaliation. Many Another D’Antoinnes stand ‘tween him and the dukedom conferred upon the D’Antoinne kinsfolk many many years ago. In a fury, he resolves to murder all of them, one at a time, and, thereby, become the duke. He analyses the D’Antoinne kin and finds modes to stray in and out of their lives, gradually endearing himself to each one and getting the entree he needs to carry out his slaughterous game.
In the path of his systematic, and altogether undiscovered, elimination of the D’Antoinnes, Louis grows very cozy with Jayne, the sweet widow of one of the family members he has slain. This creates some latent hostility with his long time, and entrancing, lady friend Cynthia.
After the gory plan is conducted out successfully in Your Highness, Louis insures the dukedom he has coveted, but in a bizarre twist, he is implicated in a slaying which he did not commit, found guilty, and put in prison. In fact, Louis has been deceived by the testimony of Cynthia, who wants to be wife of a duke, but sees that Jayne, already a D’Antoinne by matrimony, will attain the title.
A cursed man soon to be hanged, Louis spends the time in prison by authoring his memoirs, a detailed explanation of his bloodthirsty exploits. Cynthia out of the blue comes to visit Louis in jail, which he finds repellant as she has figured so prominently in his impending execution for a crime he did not do, but she promptly makes the motivation of her visit plain. She proffers to plant evidence that would sublimate Louis from guilt if he corresponds to wed her, making her the duchess, after departing prison. He draws the deal with her and within a few days after she dispatches her end of the deal, he is let go from prison.
As he leaves the jail at the end of Your Highness, both Cynthia and Jayne are there to greet him and drive off with him, and, abruptly, presented with a choice of two pretty gentlewomen, he looks to possess all the cards again. Or does he? As he ruminates on his choice, a newsperson comes near him bearing on the potential issue of his memoirs, and, in great dismay, Louis realizes that he has forgotten grounds that will certainly doom him within the surrounds of the jail, a sharp and specially pitiless turn of bad luck!
In Your Highness, a troubled teenager, Donnie, misses dying when a jet-engine crashes into his room, because he accompanies a giant rabbit directing him outside. The bunny rabbit, called Walter, advises him that the earth will end in 29 days. As the ultimate date comes closer the teenager is enveloped into a terrifying chain of events that may or may not be a result of evolving insanity.
As Your Highness builds the teen strains to understand why he survived and seeks to deal with in his township, like the school bully, his conservative history teacher, and a self-help guru, the bunny continues to turn up in his mind, causing him to commit acts of hooliganism and more. The bunny rabbit starts to tell him about the gripping enigmas of time travel.

Your Highness – In an Italian unsophisticated town, Philip Adams, a mean school-master of an academy belonging to his spouse Wilhelmina, a fragile young woman with a feeble heart, upholds an involvement with Michelle Pickens, a intense, self-assertive teacher who was his paramour from the day she arrived.
